Mariana Garibay Raeke is a painter whose practice encompasses drawing, sculpture, and photography. Her work explores felt and learned notions of identity while questioning the boundaries of what constitutes the self. She is interested in the ways we experience the world through our bodies, memory, and the ephemeral nature of experience. Born in Guadalajara and based between Oaxaca and Brooklyn, Garibay Raeke holds a BFA from California College of the Arts and an MFA from Yale University School of Art. She’s recently exhibited at Bodega Salón ACME, Ciudad de México; Situations, NY; Maat Gallery, Paris; guadalajara90210, Ciudad de México, Casa Ceniza, Guadalajara; Casey Kaplan, NY; The Chimney, Brooklyn among others. She has been an artist-in-residence at VCCA,VA; Museum of Arts and Design, NY; Anderson Ranch Arts Center, CO; and Pocoapoco, Oaxaca.
